There were others. But they made so little progress they weren't even recorded.
He may not have been the first, but he was the first probably to get away with it and continue to live, although he had to hide out to preserve his life. The Catholics need to get over their propaganda, no one believes they are the true church but them. Jesus said to be no part of the world, and the Catholic Church was a state religion. Of course they never read the bible so how would they know, right? They were the only church by force for many years, that did not mean they had God's blessings. The funny thing about Martin Luther, was that he was very prejudice toward Jewish people and thought them deserving of death. Of course after being a Catholic for so long, killing those you opposed was normal.





Edit: Erasmus may have influenced Luther, but I don't think he was the leader that Luther was.

Luther remarked several years later:





';We concede -- as we must -- that so much of what they [the Catholic Church] say is true: that the papacy has God's word and the office of the apostles, and that we have received Holy Scriptures, Baptism, the Sacrament, and the pulpit from them. What would we know of these if it were not for them?';
